I wanted to talk about some of my favorite inspirational movies that were kind of unappreciated and didn’t get much love when it first came out. So the first movie that I want to talk about is called “That’s What I Am”.
“That’s What I Am” would technically be considered like an anti-bullying film but is one of those inspirational movies that conveys its message in a different way than saying bullying is bad. It’s about this kid named Andy, played by Chase Ellison, who gets assigned to a project with Big G played by Alexander Walters. And Big G has been a kid who’s always been bullied in school. And originally Andy didn’t understand that and without giving too much away, he really starts to understand Big G and who he is. Hence the title “That’s What I Am”.
It’s about being yourself and embracing who you are and there’s a rumor going around school about a teacher played by Ed Harris, and I’m not going to spoil what the rumor is, but it caused a lot of controversy around the school. And it ends up being such a great coming of age story with a lot of heart and a great message in it. I highly recommend it.
The next movie that I’d like to recommend is called “The Ultimate Gift”. This movie is based on a very popular book and it stars James Gardner, Bill Cobbs, Drew Fuller and a very young Abigail Breslin. The movie is about a billionaire who dies and he gives his life’s fortune to his grandson but before his grandson can receive that money, he has to do a series of tasks before he can receive what he calls the ultimate gift. It is a great coming of age story where he learns a lot of lessons in the end, and I do highly recommend it. It has a lot of great lessons in it and I think you’ll like it.
The next movie on my list is called “McFarland USA“. Now this one I feel is one of the rare Disney movies that went very overlooked and very underappreciated. This movie is based on a true story. It stars Kevin Costner as Jim White as he moves to McFarland California to become an assistant football coach. Now while there he starts to realize that a lot of his students and a lot of the students at that school have a lot of potential to start a cross-country team and he learns a lot of lessons well over there. He also learns the appreciation and how easy a lot of people tend to have it and how hard these kids are working every single day, not just at school, but also at home and helping their families at such a young age.
This is a fun, heartfelt drama and I think a lot of you will like it. It does fall into the cliches a little bit in a lot of these inspirational sports dramas based on a true story. But it is still worth a watch, I think. And I think a lot of you will like it especially like sports movies. And also without spoiling it, there’s one part in this movie that every single time I watch it, I get goosebumps. It is so well done.
Now, the last of my favorite inspirational movies that I want to recommend on this list is called “Fighting with My Family”. “Fighting With My Family” came out in 2019 and it’s about the life story of WWE diva Paige. This movie stars Florence Pugh as Paige, Lena Headey and Nick Frost as her parents and also stars The Rock as himself. This is a really fascinating story as Paige, her brother and her parents have been wrestling in the UK for most of Paige’s life. And finally, her and her brother get a shot to try out for the WWE.
And this isn’t a spoiler, it was shown in the trailer, she gets in and her brother does not. So it causes this entire family drama and is very interesting. But not only that, this movie is also very, very funny. In fact, one of the funniest movies that it probably saw last year. And I think whether you’re a wrestling fan or not, there is a lot of fun to be had in this movie and also a lot of inspiration as The Rock in the only way The Rock can do is how he sprout’s inspiration during a scene.
So to recap, I recommend it. That’s What I Am. McFarland USA, Fighting With My Family, and The Ultimate Gift. I hope you all can check it out and I hope you enjoy these inspirational movies as much as I did
